Balfour Beatty receives highly commended award for sustainability reporting
At November's Building Public Trust awards, Balfour Beatty was one of three companies in the FTSE 250 category to be nominated for its Group sustainability reporting.
The judges' comments on Balfour Beatty's highly commended report were as follows:
"It provides a transparent and highly readable account of the global trends, macro-economic context and issues impacting the business.
The performance update is particularly clear, and an innovative scorecard provides a comprehensive description of the key sustainability issues, each of which is discussed in more detail in the individual sections."
Gammon recognised for sustainability reporting
Balfour Beatty's Hong Kong-based joint venture company, Gammon, was also recognised recently with an ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) Singapore Award for Sustainability Reporting at an awards ceremony held at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Singapore.
The award was in recognition of Gammon's efforts to communicate the environmental and social impacts of the company's activities in its 2010 Sustainability Report.
2010 Sustainability Report
To reflect best practice in reporting and the embedding of sustainability into all of our activities, the Group 2010 Sustainability Report will be published in March 2011 to coincide with the publication of the Annual Report and Accounts. There will also be more sustainability narrative and data throughout the Annual Report.
All Balfour Beatty operating companies are currently providing their sustainability data and case studies to Group for checking by a third-party assurance provider. The findings from this process will be fed back to a stakeholder panel to produce an independent recommendation for Balfour Beatty's Sustainability Report which is important because it adds credibility to the report.
